The new Colourform Test add-on pack
We’re not making a big deal with this release since it’s just a test pack. The new apk includes 7 widgets:
- (1) 1×1 : Settings (aka Switch)
- (3) 4×1 : Settings (aka Switches), Weather Left, and Clock Date Split
- (1) 4×2 : Header Date
- (2) 6×2 : Header Settings and Header Weather
New features include:
- ICS / JB style
- custom colors w/ full color range (i.e. black text on white)
- lots of color options: text, icons, clock parts, switch active state
- background settings: color, opacity, tile, & texture
- dynamic 4.2 style settings
- Roboto clocks (including the 4.2 hipster clock)
What’s New in HD Widgets 3.8
The big focus of 3.8 was making new components for Colourform. Theme packs only contain layout files and skins. All of the customization still happens in the app so other themes can share.
New Notification Widgets
A nice bonus to HDW 3.8 is our new notification widgets: Weather & Battery. These are system-styled widgets that show in your notifications drop down. You can turn them on in the Settings panel.
Weather includes current temperature & a short description, your location, and hi / low temperatures. The Weather widget will also show the current temperature up in the status bar.
Battery is much more detailed. Besides battery level, we also display remaining time for charging and using your battery, including max and min usage time. Current battery charge is shown in the status bar and you can expand the notification to show polling details.
We worked hard to find the best way to calculate battery & charge times. Since each device is different, we monitor different usage types: stand-by, active use, USB charging, AC charging, and wireless charging (4.2 & up). We record how much time each battery percentage takes to be used or refilled for each. After about 50 polls of each type, we’re pretty confident what your average will be and remove the tilde ~ . It’s not perfect, but it’s better than guessing.
On the Road to HD Widgets 4
We’re really close to the 4.0 release. We have a small handful of new features to add and a TON of widget layouts to finish up. Since we’ve been releasing features all along the way, HDW 4 should be a much smoother update than 3.0. We expect to be done by the end of February.
